Part-time Instructor Employment

AAA Teaching Team

Recognizing how vital the quality of instruction is to the success of our program, we are diligent in hiring and investing in instructors who will relate well to our students at Aims, can be accessible to them, are capable of creating a positive, supportive classroom environment, are strong student advocates and use student-centered instructional strategies.

Required Credentials to Teach AAA
  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education, English, reading, psychology, sociology, human services, communication studies OR bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline AND 18 graduate hours in education, counseling, psychology, sociology or closely related discipline OR Bachelor’s Degree in any area and at least 6,000 hours of work experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related discipline and college level teaching experience.
* NOTE: Currently all part time instructors meet the preferred qualifications and possess master’s degrees.

Selection Process for Part-time Instructors
  • Individuals interested in the AAA part-time instructor position are required to apply through the Human Resources website.  A search committee including the chair, full time faculty and the Assistant Director of the First Year Experience Office reviews the applications and offers interview to the top candidates based on their education and experience.
  • Interviews comprise of approximately 20-25 minutes of questions and answers as well as 10 minute teaching demonstration. We state to applicants “we realize that you cannot teach an entire lesson in 10 minutes, so we’re asking you to teach a slice of a lesson on the topic. During the teaching demonstration, we want you to teach the lesson as if you were actually teaching a classroom full of students.”
  • The committee discusses the candidates and select those individuals who appear to be the best for fit for the position and department.
Employment Offer and Expectations:
  • Course sections are offered to part time instructors via email from the chair with the following expectations outlined.

    • Follow the general AAA 090 curriculum including assignments and common syllabus.
    • Utilize the D2L course shell grade book (at minimum) and other features as desired.
    • Participate in course formative and summative assessment activities (pre/post assessment and course evaluations) and any other that are requested.

Course Cancellation/Being "Bumped":
  • Ordinarily classes with fewer than 10 students will be cancelled; part-time instructors can be 'bumped' if the teaching assignment is needed to complete the load of full-time faculty.
Mileage:
  • If a part-time instructor is teaching on multiple campuses during the same day of the week, then they can receive mileage in between campuses. For example: Class A is at Fort Lupton on TR, 9:10-10:25 a.m. and Class B is at Greeley on TR, 12:10-1:25 p.m., they can receive one-way mileage between Fort Lupton and Greeley each instructional day. Instructors cannot receive mileage from home to campus or from campus to home, only between “assignments”. If the classes are on different days of the week (Class A is TR at Fort Lupton and Class B is MW at Greeley) they are not eligible for any mileage reimbursement.
Payroll Dates:
  • A PAF is typically available for you by the fourth week of classes which outlines payroll dates.  Current compensation for a 3 credit class is $3,186.00. See more information regarding pay periods and deadlines: Payroll Dates and Information
Future Employment:
  • Teaching a section creates no expectation of future employment, and the department maintains sole discretion in choosing to offer or not offer future teaching opportunities.  NOTE: Course evaluations, pre/post assessment results, level of participation in faculty meetings/trainings/professional development, meeting outlined expectations, ability to work in a team oriented environment, etc. may be taken into consideration in continued employment offering.
