Syllabus
AAA has a common curriculum in regards to policies, the textbook used, chapters/content covered within units as well as assignments to allow consistency between sections for purposes of assessment and quality measures. A master syllabus is provided each semester for instructors to copy and modify slightly. As an instructor, you are expected to prepare a syllabus for your class. upload it to your course shell and make paper copies to be handed out on the first day of class.
- Save the relevant master course syllabus to your files (see versions below).
- Enter the following information pertinent to your course.
- Section & CRN #
- Days & Times
- Instructor Information: Name, Phone Number, Email Address, Office (Office hours are required. The Horizon Adjunct Office is available for you to use to hold office hours. The room number is Horizon Hall 136; code is 1486)
- Final Exam: Aims has phased out the finals schedule. Instructors will schedule their "finals" during the regular class meeting times.
- Delete any highlighted notes throughout the syllabus and customize to your class. Often you might have to readjust to accommodate guest speakers.
- Add clarity to policies for your preference: Example: You can put in a line to let students know that if they turn in an assignment electronically (image/pictures of each page or as a document), you expect them to turn in a paper copy the next time they are in class. Here is example wording "IMPORTANT: I do NOT grade assignments submitted electronically until I receive a paper copy. I view electronic submissions as a “date stamp” or verification that you made the deadline. But it is your responsibility to provide me with a paper copy to grade." NOTE: Please contact Francie Rottini francie.rottini@aims.edu if you would like to vary from the common policies.
NOTE: The attendance policy allows students two "sick/personal days." If a student enrolls into your class, let them know that these points will be used so that do not start the class with a loss of points. You will need to add the 20 points of extra credit at the beginning of the semester.
3. Adjust the course outline as you see fit. For example, you might include more or less time on units. Make sure to keep the content and assignments consistent to the master syllabus to achieve the course learning outcomes.
4. Email your syllabus for our archive. Send to Rebecca Sailor rebecca.sailor@aims.edu and copy Kathy Lee kathy.lee@aims.edu with the attached file name AAA 090 G12 J. Doe
