Unit Lesson Content Samples (6-9)

These samples contain one way to teach the class content within each unit.  They are designed to provide new instructors an understanding of you can teach the content using active learning and mini-lectures.  Feel free to use the ideas/structure as you create your lesson plans.

Getting Started Activities

Opening Discussion/Warm-up (5 minutes):

“Tell & Show:” Focus on explaining the steps to learning a skill and modeling it.

Lecture Content (20 minutes)

·         Include outline of content

 

Independent Practice

“Do:” Give the opportunity for students to practice the skill (guided practice or independent practice)

Activities/Practice (30 minutes)

·         Include description or instructions

 

 

 

Lesson Wrap-Up/Reflection

Lesson Wrap-Up/Reflection Questions (15 minutes)

·       Include time for students to reflect on what they learned through a one minute paper, ticket out the door, etc. 

Feedback is sharing what each student did well in practicing the skill and what they need to improve.

Describe your plan to provide feedback to students.  This is especially relevant when teaching a skill such as reading and note-taking.
